A Father’s Unwavering Love and the Desire for Growth
My unwavering love for my children is the bedrock of our relationship. They are my top priority, and their happiness and well-being are my greatest desires. Throughout their lives, I’ve encouraged them to strive for excellence and reach their full potential. This desire stems from love, not disappointment.
When they were younger and faced challenges, whether academic or personal, I wanted them to experience the joy and fulfillment that comes from living a meaningful life aligned with their values. My hope was to empower them to achieve their best because I knew they were capable of great things.
Even as they’ve grown, married, and started families, my wish for their continued growth hasn’t diminished. I want them to cultivate joy, love, happiness, and all that enriches life. This isn’t because I doubt their abilities; in fact, I see them as accomplished individuals. It’s because I know that if we will but reflect and seek to improve where we must that an even greater life experience is available.
This desire for growth isn’t just for my children; it’s a core belief I strive to embody in my own life. I try and dedicate time for reflection each day to acknowledge areas where I’ve fallen short and mistakes I’ve made. Here is the prayer I use at the beginning of the reflection. “Lord, make me better today than I was yesterday and better still tomorrow than I was today.”
My prayer is my way of acknowledging my shortcomings and seeking God’s help to experience the abundant life planned for me. This reflection isn’t a time for self-deprecation or negativity. It’s an honest period of evaluation, examining what hasn’t been working and where I can improve. Even with this approach, I still make mistakes. But that’s part of the journey. With God’s help, I can learn from these shortcomings and continue to grow into a better person. My ultimate goal is to be a blessing to myself, my family, and everyone I encounter.
This mirrors my faith in a loving God. Just as I want more for my children, I believe God desires even more for us – a deeper connection, greater purpose, and a richer experience of love. However, to receive these blessings, we must acknowledge our limitations and seek God’s guidance.
Ultimately, my belief that God wants more for us is rooted in faith and trust. A loving God desires the best for all of us.
